Shift to Service-Oriented Economy and Its Impact on Corporate Strategy

The work introduces service-oriented economy paradigms in a broader context and shows their influence on corporate and business strategies. It tries to put together traditional corporate and business strategy models and the new emerging service science. The work points out major ideas of the service-oriented economy in a confrontation with the traditional product-oriented economy. As a result of the comparison, the work shows a need for a new approach in business behavior coming out of current efforts in the world. As the final result, the work brings in practical set of recommendations for corporate and business strategy formulation in service economy. In the practical part of the thesis, the results are demonstrated and applied to the strategy of a selected company.

The master thesis discusses the service-oriented economy paradigms with the focus on the company’s competitiveness. Specifically it points at the competitive advantages which can be achieved or promoted through service innovation. The theoretical background demostrates the specifics and the importance of services in today`s leading economies. It shows the competitive strategies used in service companies and compares them with the known strategies defined for and used in product-oriented economy. The thesis analyzes more closely the service innovation methods used by the IBM GSDC Brno company in the global IT services area. It indicates and discusses the main problems of service innovation which can hinder the competitive advantage development as well as the current and future trends in the IT services sector. As a result the thesis proposes the improved approaches to service innovation which can lead to better competitiveness on the global service marketplace.

Kategorizace služeb z business a IT hlediska

S rychlejším technologickým pokrokem mají služby stále větší podíl na tvorbě HDP států. Otázkou je, zda jsou služby správně a dostatečně podporovány dostupnými prostředky informačních technologií. Práce bude příspěvkem k rozvoji nově vznikajícího akademického oboru Service Science, Management and Engineering zabývajícího se právě studiem služeb a stane se jeho součástí. Smysl kategorizace služeb je v určení jejich přehledné organizace pro další využití. Určité kategorizace služeb obecně nebo přímo v oboru informačních technologií byly již v průběhu let vytvořeny, ovšem budu se snažit přidat nové dělení nebo případně přidat své postřehy k vybraným stávajícím kategorizacím.
